Devoting this space to the Loyds is in fact continuing the account of the descendants of George and Sarah Adams Crosswhite. Only John Loyd and his brother Absalom, plus James and John Loyd as their forebears, are outside the Crosswhite line of descent from George, b. 1772.

Because of the close relationship and intermarriage between Crosswhites and Loyds of Johnson County, Tenn. (their old home places were less than a mile apart), it seems appropriate to give here an ancestral line of Loyds, as taken partly from a Bible record and partly from a recently published history of families of Johnson County – or of several families such as Wills, Shouns, Wilsons, Loyds, Blevins, Lowes, Crosswhites and others. The history was compiled by Carl B. Neal, 3324 Headly Rd., Olympia, Wash. A pertinent paragraph follows:

Elizabeth  Wills, born. Dec. 9, 1805, died 1860, married Rev. Absalom Loyd. His frist wife was Mary Wilson of Washington County, VA. Absalom Loyd was the son of John and Sara Loyd, and grandson of James and Ruth Loyd, probably originally from PA but who lived in Botetourt Co., VA before the revolution. Absalom had a sister Mary who married Lawson White, and a brother John Loyd who was born Dec. 15, 1797, died Nov. 16, 1849; married Anna or Anne Crosswhite, born Feb. 13, 1810, died January 1852. Had 11 children.

Anna, Anne or Annie (three different spellings found) was the daughter of George Crosswhite b. 1772 and wife Sarah Adams Crosswhite. Annie married John Loyd, father of Landon Loyd and grandfather of Kate Loyd Crosswhite. Thus, George Crosswhite of 1772 was a great-grandfather of both Kate Loyd Crosswhite and her husband, Joseph Grant Crosswhite.

Annie Crosswhite, b. Feb. 13, 1810, d. 1852, was married in 1827 to John Loyd, b. Dec. 15, 1797, d. Nov. 16, 1849. This John Loyd was the son of John Loyd and wife Sara, and grandson of James Loyd and wife Ruth. Dates of birth for the father John and grandfather James are not known, but James should have been born some 50 years or less prior to the birth of his grandson John in 1797. As stated above, this John Loyd had a brother named Absalom.

The eleven children of John Loyd and wife Annie Crosswhite Loyd are listed here:
